“Art is the only thing you cannot punch a button for. You must do it the old-fashioned way. Stay up and really burn the midnight oil. There are no compromises.”
~Leontyne Price
From a young age, my parents instilled within me the value of hard work, dedication and sacrifice. Born in Wyndmoor, PA right outside of Philadelphia, PA, I remember hearing my father practicing Debussy, Chopin and Gershwin on our Steinway piano or seeing my mother studying scores of Hayden’s Creation or Bizet’s opera, Carmen. My parents entered me in dance classes at the Pennsylvania Ballet School, violin lessons as Jenkintown Settlement Music School, children’s choirs at Temple University’s Center For Gifted Musicians and theatre in my hometown.
After graduating high school, I attended Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and received my Bachelor of Arts with a major in English and minor in Drama. Deciding to focus my attention on law instead of performing, I moved to Washington, DC to be a congressional aide for Stephanie Tubes Jones ( D-Ohio). After a year of working on the hill and learning the ins and out of the judicial system, I knew that I was in the wrong place. I missed the stage. I applied and was accepted to The Boston Conservatory. After two years, I graduated with my Masters in Music in Performance and moved to NYC.
I moved to New York City full of hope, drive and faith. Working at Macy’s and Gap to make ends meet, I auditioned continuously and fought to be seen by as many casting agents and directors as I could. After several months, I booked my first regional show at Paper Mill Playhouse, Ragtime. This began the start of my career as a New York Actor. The rest is history……….
